On Friday, December 13th 2019, a small object emerged from the soil of Warwickshire that had slept beneath the English earth for more than four centuries.
It was a heart.
Not of flesh, but of gold.
The jewel bore the intertwined initials of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon, together with the pomegranate that had long symbolised the Spanish queen.
It also had the word Toujours, old French for Always.
Few objects speak so powerfully of a moment in history.
Yet the greatest mystery was not its beauty, but its journey.
How had such a jewel, born in the splendour of the Tudor court, come to lie forgotten in a Warwickshire field?
Today the jewel rests safely in the care of the British Museum, where it is examined by historians, conservators, and scientists seeking to uncover every possible clue to its past.
But objects do not travel alone.
They pass from hand to hand, from love to loss, from loyalty to betrayal.
Records fade. Letters are lost. And the truth of a journey may vanish into the silence of time.
This book does not claim to reveal that truth.
But it asks a simple question.
If this jewel could speak, whose story would it tell?
What follows is one possible journey.
Perhaps, in some small way, the heart remembers.
