It was wonderful to see fellow historical author Tony Riches highlighting the remarkable Tudor Jewel today.
It reminded me just how many people have never heard the extraordinary story behind one of the most important Tudor discoveries of recent years.
Discovered by a metal detectorist in a Warwickshire field in 2019, this exquisite gold and enamel jewel is believed to have been commissioned by Henry VIII for Katherine of Aragon. After much research, it has now found its permanent home in the British Museum, where it will be preserved for future generations.
For the past several months, I have immersed myself in its history, following the jewel’s imagined journey through the Tudor court and beyond. That research has now become my third historical novel:

The novel is now complete and will be published this August.
Writing it has been an incredible journey, combining historical fact with historical fiction to tell a story spanning the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey and Mary I, all centred around one extraordinary surviving object from Tudor England.
