The Murdered Princes in the Tower 1483

One of the biggest unsolved "who dun its" in English history

The Find

Apologies for the recent radio silence, but I am dedicating the next ten days to completing Part Two of The Queen’s Heart: Always — The Find.

I am connected to many other authors, but for those of you who have never written a historical novel, the process is an unusual and intensely personal one. I need to feel right in my head: calm, clear and completely open to absorbing the period.

My style of writing relies upon getting beneath the skin of my characters. I almost have to inhabit them so that I can understand what drove them, why they made the choices they did, how they reacted to events and how they dealt with the people around them. For a while, their world must become my world.

There is something enormously satisfying about completing a chapter, sitting back and thinking, ‘Yes, that worked. That was good.’

Next week, I shall be sending the completed draft to a few trusted readers who always review my work before publication. Therefore, if you do not hear very much from me over the coming week, please do not worry.

I am still here—just living in 1556.
