Sir Thomas More, where his skull is located

Just opposite St Dunstan’s Church in Canterbury, set quietly into the wall by the old gateway to the Roper family home, a simple plaque marks a place where history still lingers.

It would be easy to walk past it without a second glance.

And yet, this was once the home of Margaret Roper — devoted daughter of Thomas More — who ensured that part of her father’s story would endure. Within the nearby church, his head was laid to rest, preserved not by chance, but by loyalty, memory, and care.

These small markers — a plaque, a chapel, a quiet resting place — are how history survives. Not loudly, but persistently.

They remind us that the past is not lost. It is simply waiting to be understood.
