Today I am delighted to introduce the first of our six Tudor queens.
Katherine of Aragon was the daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, the first wife of Henry VIII, and one of the many remarkable women to sit upon the English throne. Intelligent, dignified and fiercely loyal, she remained steadfast throughout the many trials of her life.
For Katherine, there could be only one preserve.
Spiced Seville Orange Marmalade.
The orange was the symbol of her Spanish homeland. Its rich colour recalls the warm Mediterranean sun beneath which she spent her childhood, whilst the gentle blend of spices reflects the luxury goods and exotic flavours that flowed through the courts of Spain and England during the Tudor age.
As I researched Katherine’s life for my novels, I was continually struck by her courage, faith and resilience. This marmalade is my tribute to a queen who refused to surrender her principles, even when faced with the power of a king.
Imagine a Tudor breakfast table.
Fresh bread still warm from the oven.
A crackling fire.
The scent of orange and spice filling the chamber.
It is easy to picture Katherine beginning her day in much the same way nearly five hundred years ago.
Each jar in The Tudor Rose Collection has been carefully curated to reflect the character, history and legacy of the queen it represents.
