Who can authorise DNA testing?
Why can Parliament not simply order DNA testing of the alleged remains of the Princes in the Tower?
The bones rest in Westminster Abbey, which is a Royal Peculiar. This means that the usual parliamentary petition process cannot itself authorise their examination.
Any proposal must be considered by the Dean of Westminster Abbey and ultimately requires the approval of His Majesty The King.
That is why this campaign is not simply about reaching a particular number of signatures. The petition demonstrates the strength of public support for a dignified, minimally invasive scientific examination—and strengthens the formal case placed before those who can grant permission.
