As my first book will be released next month, I thought you might enjoy getting to know some of the figures who step from the pages into the light.
Today we meet the young Catherine Howard.
Orphaned at around five years old, Catherine lost her mother, Jocasta Culpepper, early – a fate all too common in Tudor England. Her father remarried swiftly, but when debts pressed hard, he fled abroad to escape his creditors. Catherine never saw him again.
She was put out, as was customary for children of noble houses, and sent to live under the wardship of her step-grandmother, the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk. It was here, within the bustling Norfolk household, that she was tutored in music by Henry Maddox…
