The story behind the petition for DNA testing

To understand why this petition matters, we must begin in Wales.

When Edward I conquered Wales by force of arms, he knew that conquest alone would never secure loyalty. To bind Wales to the English Crown, he made a solemn pledge to the Welsh people.

His son and heir, Edward of Caernarfon, would be proclaimed the first Prince of Wales. He would be raised among its people, and crucially, he would speak Welsh. It was a symbolic promise of respect, continuity, and legitimacy.

From that moment onward, Wales became inseparable from the English Crown.

Ludlow Castle then assumed a profound dynastic role. It became the place where princes were educated, governed, and prepared for kingship. From Ludlow, heirs learned the weight of rule before they ever wore the crown itself.

This tradition matters, because it establishes a clear constitutional and symbolic chain:
Wales → the Prince → the Crown of England.
