Meet the Characters – From my novel The Reflection in the Mirror

Hans Holbein the Younger (c.1497–1543)

Hans Holbein the Younger was one of the greatest artists of the Northern Renaissance. Born in Augsburg, he travelled widely before settling in England, where he became court painter to Henry VIII.

Holbein’s portraits are celebrated for their precision, psychological depth, and astonishing detail. He captured the likenesses of some of the most powerful figures of Tudor England: Henry VIII, Thomas Cromwell, Thomas More, Anne of Cleves, and Christina of Denmark.

Beyond portraiture, Holbein designed jewellery, title pages, and religious works, fusing German technique with Italian Renaissance influences. His legacy is unmatched: he left behind not only magnificent likenesses but also a vivid visual record of Tudor politics, personalities, and power.

The novel is now available as a paperback, or on Kindle, and hardback copies will be on sale shortly.
